Three easy steps that help energize your brain and body


"Drinking more Water'' — Staying hydrated before attempting brain exercises will increase brain function and performance. 

          As one of the most important organs in your body, the brain is estimated to be 85% water. As such, optimal brain function depends on water and lots of it. Water is what keeps the brain signals going. Water provides brain energy more effectively than any other substance.  When hydrated, the brain is functioning on a full reserve of water. The brain will function at full capacity and you'll think better and faster receiving a boost in creativity. So we recommend you drink at least a cup of water as soon as you wake up to help start optimal brain function."

"Brain Buttons'' — This exercise helps improve blood flow to the brain to “switch on” the entire brain.

          Place one hand over the navel. With fingertips of the other hand, rub the space between the first and second ribs (just under the collarbones) on either side of the sternum. Why? This exercise works by stimulating the vestibular system (via the solar plexus) and the upper hand stimulating the carotid baroreceptors (causing a mild parasympathetic shift)"

 "Deep Breathing'' — Oxygen is essential to maintaining normal brain function.

          Deep breathing can be an important coping skill to learn. Although the brain represents only 2% of the body weight, it receives 15% of the cardiac output, and 20% of total body oxygen consumption. Natural breathing involves your diaphragm, a large muscle in your abdomen. When you breathe in, your belly should expand. When you breathe out, your belly should contract. Over time, people forget how to breathe this way and instead use their chest and shoulders. This causes short and shallow breaths,  which can increase stress and anxiety."
